Biography: A full back who had the misfortune to be at Old Trafford at the same time as Johnny Carey and John Aston, in the final season of war time football he was a regular in the United side. But in the first season after the war, he suffered a knee injury which kept him out of action for a couple of months and when he was fit again, he was unable to dislodge Carey from the side and was sold to Preston for £10,000, the highest fee ever paid for a full back. He stayed in Preston running a newsagents' before working for an electrical firm. Died in December 2006.
