Biography: Liverpool broke the transfer record for a goalkeeper when they parted with £4 million to bring Westerveld into English football in 2000. Ironically, he was bought to replace David James. Having played a major part in the Reds' Treble winning season his form dipped and new manager Gerard Houllier allowed him to leave. Spells with Real Sociedad and Mallorca followed before Alain Perrin persuaded him to return to the UK in July 2005. Was initially first choice for but struggled to find consistency. After a loan period at Everton was released in May 2006. He then helped Spanish second Division side UD Almeria gain promotion before returning to Holland. Joined Italian side A.C. Monza Brianza 1912, in the summer of 2009.
