Wile, John Although not the first name to spring to mind in talking about the great Albion side of the late 70s, that belongs to the likes of Robson, Cunningham, Regis et al, but Wile was captain courageous -see pics of the 1978 FA cup semi final - and the glue to that side, commanding respect from all his worthy opponents of the time. Watching WBA with him at the heart of defence was ever reassuring.

John Robson When John Wile was captain of WBA a friend of mine went to do some work in his parents house in Sherburn Village. His parents tried to engage him in conversationabout their famous son whose memerobila was everywhere. My friend pretended he did not know him. John was a late developper who was not good enough to get in his school team in Sherburn Village but he had the persistence and desire to make his mark.
