William Wilson

Clubs played for: Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth (1961-1979)

Born: 1946

Biography: Originally from the North East, Billy and his wife agreed to move south from Blackburn Rovers in 1972 with a plan to only stay for two years. Not only did the thefair haired defender/midfielder play over 200 times for the club over eight years, he still lives in the area, almost forty years later. Despite training to run a garage in preparation for his retirement, he went straight into into the pub trade, initially becoming licensee of the Pompey, which used to be on Frogmore Road, just outside Fratton Park. Thirteen years at the Three Tuns in Gosport followed and he has now returned to the town to enjoy his retirement after stints at the Wyvern at Lee-on-the-Solent and the Horse and Jockey in Curbridge.
